Shocking dashcam video from Pretoria, South Africa, illustrates the harrowing seconds where a crew of an armored car nearly escapes an attempt by armed robbers to rob them.
The footage taken on April 22nd shows private security officers transporting cash in a bulletproof Toyota truck before they are quickly attacked by armed men who try to rob the vehicle.
For the first minute of the three-minute-long video, the security guards can be seen driving down the highway on their normal patrol route.
The vehicle is then opened fire on as bullets can be heard banging into the driver’s side window shattering glass.
The driver somehow maintains his cool during the whole attack, and eventually manages to escape into traffic. The car is then seen crashing into one of the two vehicles being used by the attackers.
Gunshots continue to be heard as the two drive silently as the tension builds. The driver then shouts to his associate: “Phone Robbie, phone Josh! Ask them where they are.”
As the video cuts to an end coming to a close, the driver can be seen stopping the vehicle and grabbing his partner’s rifle. At this point, the assaulters seem to realize that their attack has failed and begin to flee the scene of the crime.
“The suspects fired several shots at the [Cash-In-Transit] vehicle in an attempt to stop it during a high-speed chase,” police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said, reports News24.
“The driver of the CIT vehicle managed to evade the robbers for a while but later stopped in wait for the robbers,” Naidoo added. “The robbers fled without taking any money. No arrests have yet been made.”
Damage to the car included gunshot holes in the windshield and side door windows according to pictures shared on Twitter.
