Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime associate and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell has been under a tight watch while in custody because officials fear that she may end up dead. Out of fear that she may take her own life, prison officials took away her clothes and bedsheets and forced her to wear paper gowns while in custody, according to the Associated Press.
Because of what happened to Epstein, authorities are concerned that Maxwell won’t make it to trial, so they have taken extreme security measures that were not in place at the time of Epstein’s imprisonment. At first, it was suspected that she may end up at the same prison where Epstein died but instead she was taken to the nearby Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. While at the facility, Maxwell will have a roommate in her cell at all times and will be monitored by staff around the clock.
Attorney General William Barr said that Epstein’s death was the result of the “perfect storm of screw ups” at the prison where he was being held, and authorities are desperate to not see a repeat of that situation. Maxwell has been on suicide watch since she was first arrested considering the circumstances of the case.
Spencer Kuvin, an attorney for several Epstein victims, told The Daily Mail that he thinks she will die behind bars.
“I don’t think she is going to get out of jail alive. I said the same thing about Jeffrey Epstein and people laughed at me. I think she knows way too much information. I just have this gut feeling,” he said.
Sources close to Ghislaine Maxwell have revealed that she has a secret stash of recordings and plans to use the footage as a bargaining tool with prosecutors.
Maxwell’s former friend, who spoke under the condition of anonymity with The Mail, said that these tapes could implicate some extremely powerful people, and that Maxwell likely plans to take them all down with her.
“Ghislaine has always been as cunning as they come. She wasn’t going to be with Epstein all those years and not have some insurance. The secret stash of sex tapes I believe Ghislaine has squirreled away could end up being her get out of jail card if the authorities are willing to trade. She has copies of everything Epstein had. They could implicate some twisted movers and shakers,” the source said.
The former friend of Maxwell also said that she and Epstein intentionally collected evidence on all of their associates to use as blackmail.
In an interview with The Sun, Epstein’s former employer Steven Hoffenberg said that Maxwell ‘knows everything’ and will ‘totally co-operate’ after her arrest.
Following Maxwell’s arrest, Prince Andrew has canceled his trips abroad and plans to stay in the UK out of fears that he could be intercepted by authorities, the New York Post reported. Friends have indicated that Prince Andrew is one person that Maxwell doesn’t intend to share information about, but investigators have been trying to question him for months, and he has continued to avoid their requests.
