White House On Lockdown As Gunshots Heard; President Whisked By Secret Service

According to reports on social media there have been gunshots heard outside the White Hosue amid a press briefing by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump was in the middle of giving a press briefing when all of a sudden Secret Service agents whisked him off stage to the West Wing. Journalists inside the press briefing room are on lockdown as an unknown situation occurs outside the White House.

Reporters on Twitter stated there were gunshots heard outside of the White House with several police cars flooding DC's streets. The Secret Service Twitter account confirmed that there was an officer-involved shooting on 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known, the suspect was transported to the hospital, according to the president.

President Trump addressed the press, after the shooting telling journalists that an armed man was shot. The unknown person's condition is not immediately available.

"There was a shooting outside of the White House and it seems to be very well under control. I would like to thank the Secret Service for doing their always quick & very effective work."

When Trump was asked by reporters if he was shaken by the incident, the president responds saying: "I don't know. Do I seem rattled?"

There were no other injuries and the only shots reported were fired by the Secret Service.
