Prince Harry Says Decision To Leave The Royals Is To “Protect His Family”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made the decision to break from the royal family, and the reactions to their departure have been split. Opinions on this matter, both in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world, seem to be driven by how a person feels about the monarchy in general. Advocates of the monarchy have described the couples break from the royals as disrespectful and even “disgusting,” while critics of the royals have celebrated what they are calling an “escape.”

Ex-Royal Marine James Glancy, a former Captain in the Special Boat Service, said that many members of the military were upset by the move, and were especially unhappy with how the matter was handled. Sources have indicated that Queen Elizabeth II, Harry’s grandmother had to find out about her grandson’s decision through the media, which many advocates of the monarchy have taken issue with. However, many others are looking to Harry and Meghan as heroes for leaving the monarchy, and it appears that there may be another side to the story.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex For more information, please visit (link in bio) Image © PA

Close friends of Prince Harry suggest that there was some type of leak that contributed to the awkward announcement. Tom Bradby, who made documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, suggested in an article for the Sunday Times that Harry actually intended to speak to his grandmother privately about the issue, but was somehow persuaded to type up an announcement, which was then quickly leaked to the Sun, forcing the couples hand to release their announcement earlier.

Bradby said that Harry and Meghan feel they have been driven out. Prince Harry’s friend JJ Chalmers, who he served in the army with, suggested in a recent interview that Harry was leaving the royals to protect his child and family.

Harry has actually said this himself in past interviews. In one video that surfaced recently, Harry can be heard making similar remarks, that he is leaving to save his family, although he does not go into specifics about the danger that his family is facing.

In another part from the same interview, Harry can be heard saying he will not be bullied into playing a game that took the life of his mother. However, it is important to note that when he is speaking about the incident that took his mother’s life, he is placing blame on the media and the photographers who were allegedly chased her off the road on that tragic night, he does not seem to be openly referencing the royal family. In fact, that interview came around the same time that he was filing a lawsuit against members of the media.

It is not exactly clear what the future will hold for Harry and Meghan, but their financial involvement with the royal family is to be decided at an upcoming meeting that will be held by the Queen. Some reports have indicated that Harry has already used his connections to get Meghan, a former actress, a new job doing voiceovers for an animated Disney film.

Horowitz could have had a job at one of the top media organizations in the United States, but when working as an intern, he found that the journalists in the newsroom were confined by the anxieties and sensibilities of their bosses. Horowitz loved journalism, but wanted more freedom to pursue more complex topics than you would find on the evening news. Around the same time, he began to notice that there was a growing number of independent journalists developing followings online by sharing their in-depth analysis of advanced or off-beat topics. It wasn't long before Horowitz quit his internship with a large New York network to begin publishing his own material online.
