Gunman Still At Large After Shooting 11 People At Gilroy Garlic Festival

According to numerous reports, there was a shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California on Sunday, July 28. Emergency workers and paramedics responded to reports of at least 11 people injured at the festival, which is located about 30 miles southeast of San Jose.

The event is one of the largest food festivals in the United States, and was in its third day when the incident occurred.

A video was posted to Twitter following the incident, showing the chaos that ensued after the shots were fired.

“What’s going on? Who would shoot up a garlic festival?” one woman can be heard shouting in the video.

Witness, Julissa Contreras, told NBC Bay Area that she saw a middle-aged white man firing a rifle that was “able to shoot three to four shots a second.”

“It was just rapid firing. I could see him shooting in just every direction. He wasn’t aiming at anyone specifically. It was just left to right, right to left. …

“He definitely was prepared for what he was doing,” she said.

Maximo Rocha, another witness, said that he saw many people laying on the ground, but was unsure how many people were injured and how many were taking cover.

Witnesses described hearing loud bangs that sounded like gunshots before realizing that what was actually happening.

In a statement, Gilroy police said that the crime “scene is still active.”

“If you are looking for a loved one, please go to the reunification center at Gavilan College, at Parking Lot B. The hearts of the Gilroy Police Department and the entire community go out to the victims of today’s shooting at the Garlic Festival,” the statement read.

Police have not released any details on the suspect and it seems that the shooter is still at large. It does not seem that the police know much about the shooter either, as they have not released a description or any details that would allow citizens to help in the manhunt.

According to the festival’s website, The Gilroy Garlic Festival started in 1979 and is now known across the globe as the world’s greatest summer food fair, with three full days of great garlicky food, live entertainment, and family fun.
