Floyd Mayweather Announces Boxing Match Against Logan Paul

Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather is returning to the ring to fight YouTube star Logan Paul.

Mayweather may be retired, but he is still undefeated, and Logan Paul can hardly be considered a professional boxer.

Mayweather announced the fight on Instagram this Sunday. The exhibition match will take place on February 20th of next year, and the event will be exclusively available on Fanmio pay-per-view.

More than a week ago, Paul’s brother Jake Paul knocked out former Knicks guard Nate Robinson on the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. undercard, and is now considering other contenders.

Mayweather was named “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2010s by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), a two-time winner of The Ring magazine’s Fighter of the Year award, a three-time winner of the BWAA Fighter of the Year award, and a six-time winner of the Best Fighter ESPY Award.

In 2016, Mayweather was ranked by ESPN as the greatest boxer, pound for pound, of the last 25 years. As of July 2020, BoxRec ranks him the 2nd greatest boxer of all time, pound for pound behind Ezzard Charles.

He is often referred to as the best defensive boxer in history, as well as being the most accurate puncher since the existence of CompuBox, having the highest plus–minus ratio in recorded boxing history.

Mayweather has a record of 26 consecutive wins in world title fights, 23 wins in lineal title fights, 24 wins against former or current world titlists, 12 wins against former or current lineal champions, and 4 wins against International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees.

Mayweather is one of the most lucrative pay-per-view attractions of all time, in any sport. He topped the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012 and 2013, and the Forbes list again in both 2014 and 2015, listing him as the highest-paid athlete in the world.

Meanwhile, Logan Paul came to prominence on the now-defunct social media application Vine. He registered his YouTube channel, TheOfficialLoganPaul, on October 18, 2013, where he started posting regularly after Vine closed down.

He later created the Logan Paul Vlogs channel on August 29, 2015, which has since become his most subscribed YouTube channel. As of September 2020, the channel has received over 22 million subscribers and 4.8 billion views, ranking as the 54th subscribed in the United States, and placing him among the top 140 subscribed channels on the platform.

Paul has been involved in several controversies, most notably in relation to a visit to Japan, during which he filmed the corpse of a man who had hanged himself and posted the footage on his YouTube channel.
