Eric Andre Supports Petition Calling For Him To Replace Ellen DeGeneres On NBC Talk Show

Ellen DeGeneres, the host of the popular NBC daytime talk show that bears her name, has been in the midst of a deepening scandal for the past several months, as members of her staff come forwards with accusations of a toxic workplace, including bullying and sexual harassment.

The controversy began around the same time that the lockdowns started in the United States, where many live talk shows like hers were put on hold. However, when the decision was made to cancel tapings of the show, Ellen never notified her staff, and she also left them hanging without pay, despite making an estimated $84 million per year. Once the staff complained about how they were being treated during the pandemic, a flood of accusations spread across the internet about how poorly she treated those who work for her.

There has been no official announcement about what will happen to the show because taping is on hiatus due to the pandemic, but NBC is expected to cancel the show in response to the backlash. Now everyone is wondering who the top picks could be for a replacement. The comedian Eric Andre seems like he would be one of the most unlikely picks, but the internet has already chosen him, whether or not the executives at NBC will agree is another issue altogether.

A petition calling for Eric Andre to replace Ellen has already gathered over 77,000 signatures. However, they still want to keep the name of the show the same for some reason.

Eric Andre is best known as the creator, host, and co-writer of the Adult Swim comedy series The Eric Andre Show. Earlier this year, Andre released his first Netflix comedy special “Legalize Everything.” Andre seems to be open to the idea of replacing Ellen, and has shared a few face swap photos to his social media pages and posted in support of the petition.

Despite projecting an image of an advocate for social justice in public, those close to Ellen and those who worked with her have described her as a tyrant, and have accused her of being racist and even sexually harassing workers. After the first accusations surfaced, some celebrities came forward with their own complaints about Ellen.

In March 2020, comedian Kevin T. Porter posted a tweet asking people to share instances of DeGeneres being “mean” and received more than 2,800 responses.

However, not everyone is convinced. Katy Perry, Jay Leno, Ashton Kutcher, Tyrese Gibson, Alec Baldwin, Kevin Hart, Diane Keaton, Nacho Figueras, Jerry O’Connell, and de Rossi have all expressed support for Ellen. It is important to remember that the people who defended her are famous celebrities, so she had a lot of motivation to treat them with respect. How she treats people with power doesn’t really tell much about her personality, but the way that she treats people that she has power over says a lot.

It will be interesting to see if Eric Andre is chosen as a replacement, or if they will decide to go with someone safe and boring instead.
