By now, you have probably heard of the viral campaign to “Storm Area 51,” which has been gathering a great deal of excitement on social media. At this point, it seems like nothing more than an elaborate joke, but the movement has sparked some ideas about how powerful people really can be in large numbers.
The premise behind the Area 51 event is that “they can’t stop us all,” showing that people working together in large numbers can accomplish any goal, even taking over one of the most secretive military bases on the planet.
This has left many people scratching their heads and wondering why such a large amount of people can’t join together for more charitable causes.
One animal shelter in Oklahoma has decided to latch on to the viral campaign of Area 51 to persuade people to come and rescue animals. OKC Animal Shelter has dressed some of the dogs and cats up like aliens and posted the photos to social media.
One of the captions reads, “Come storm our shelter… We have great animals ready to protect you from the Area 51 aliens. Adoption isn’t that far out of this world!#stormtheshelter.”
Luckily for the pets in the photo, the campaign was a massive success. Within hours, the shelter began getting donations, and visitors showed up looking for the animals that they saw in the photos.
Still, the shelter says that they still have plenty of animals up for adoption, and the price is very affordable. The average price to rescue an animal at the shelter is just $60, however, the facility will lower that fee for dogs and cats who have been up for adoption for more than two weeks, or those who have medical conditions or are older than 4 years.
